Journal 5: Circulation

After reading the Wiki entry my understanding of what circulation is has not changed. Circulation is about how texts move through “time and space” meaning that sources are used, loaned, shared in order to keep the continuing cycle of becoming familiar with different pieces of work. The Wiki introduces the idea that circulation happens within any type of media that is given to the public but it is not limited to information posted/written, it can also be verbal as well. It is clearly stated, that usually any text are made and intended for the public but the exception could rely on the fact that some text are meant for private reasons in which that should not be circulating. The process of circulating leads to innovations of past work, people are able to view the flaws that could have come from different perspectives and different times; living in different eras can change a lot of customs and traditions that is why work is constantly updated.

The understanding might change if put into conversation with “Everything is a Remix” and Johnson’s video, in that those videos are specifically geared towards how ideas come from previous sources and how it all comes together. Johnson speaks about the process of thinking and coming up with ideas and what usually works best. He draws it out for the audience into terms and descriptions that are understandable and relatable. Johnson assures that when two or more people have ideas that gathering of them is like combustion and usually leads to an explosion of a bigger and better idea. Everything is a Remix is more firm on the usage and reusing of previous work, for example, he demonstrates how movies are made updated from the older version all the time or how themes are reappear in new movies all the time. This is due to how people use familiar genres and usually reproduce a piece that has been seen before with slight differences. These videos represent how the coming together of different ideas have revolutionized types of genres and have made a particular set up of what each genre is expected to produce and what needs to be included in order for that piece to be successful. They basically coincide with one another because they elaborate how thinking involves ideas/thoughts that have been used and that is due to how people use experiences and their knowledge when thinking.

Knowledge and circulation shared a never ending relationship. The knowledge that one comprehends and uses in their daily lives is the same knowledge that circulates, that is how it is presented to one. Without the circulation process people would be illiterate and not understanding of their surroundings; they both have to exist together in order to perform their duty. The gran relationship between knowledge and circulation is how information passes on from one person to another and another until sufficient amount of people know about it that it becomes a well-known genre. Technology plays a role in knowledge and circulation because it has enhanced how far knowledge can circulate throughout the entire world. It also makes knowledge a lot more accessible it has also lead to new innovation in technology; updating systems that have already been made is a contribution to knowledge and it circulating in order to provide a better software.
