Journal 1: What is Writing?

 

          When I personally think of writing the first thought that comes to mind is; what is the story behind the words that have been written, how was the content of the writing determined, what value must is have to society because after all writing has a purpose. Also, I question what it took to create the writing thing such as time, thought, and creativity. Considering the resources it takes to write and how well one puts them to use. Things such as what position the writer uses or what style of writing the author uses to communicate with the audience; whether the piece of writing is to inform, convince, or to explain a circumstance to the reader. As well as, whether the writing is formal or informal and what tone it is using.

         These texts complicate my definition of writing due to the substantial amounts of ways to interprets different writings. There are many components to writing that explain which type of writing it is and what it is used for. Due to this, there is no set form of writing for each and every occasion; each occasion has a specific/different way to address and write throughout the piece. Therefore, one must take initiative to adapt to all forms and use them when needed; I could not tell someone my definition of writing but provide examples of the many styles. All I could say is that whether it is formal or informal it is a way of communication through words that provide a meaning.

        Composing is when one brings all the elements needed to make the writing, in a sense it is different from writing because it is the process of gathering rather than words on a sheets of paper. It is more of the development than the final piece of work; it requires work to get all the pieces together in order to create the actual written context. These texts inform my definition of composing because it provides me with the knowledge and scheduling of composing. It informs me by explaining how different components such as multimedia, genre, tools, context, tone etc... Come together to form software that allows all to communicate, which is the ultimate objective when it comes to writing. Also, making in notable that the process of composing has to do with how people interact whether they come from unlike norms.
